Trinity Centre for Social Innovation

About the centre…

The Trinity Centre for Social Innovation was launched in 2018 to make a positive impact on society and the environment through engagement, research, innovation and teaching.  You can read more about the centre here.  It is based in the Business School in TCD but its reach extends into many other disciplines and areas of interest.  Current and recent resarch interests and projects include:

Sustainability and resilience: this has included Connecting Nature: nature based projects in European urban settings, led by  Siobhan McQuaid, and ‘NBS Eduworld’ where  Research Fellow Conor Dowling works to create educational approaches for Nature Based Solutions with a focus on addressing the challenges of climate change and the just transition using solutions devised from nature.

Social finance and philanthropy

Social enterprise, social entrepreneurship and hybrid organisations, led by Professor Sheila Cannon (and with some input from me)

Business Ethics: the business ethics online seminar series.

Business and Human Rights, led by Mary Lawlor UN special rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders.

True Places: currently in development, a paper on methodologies used in different countries to map (that is, to identify, count and describe) their social enterprises.  Authors: Danielle Byrne, Professor Mary-Lee Rhodes and Professor Truong Thi Nam Thang.

Vibe:  a bilateral educational exchange project between Vietnam and Ireland.  The March 2018 visit had a focus on social innovation and enterprise.

Little Heresies: a series of events that “provide opportunities for a wide audience to participate in discussing disruptive ideas to tackle societal issues”.  If you would like to be included in the mailing list, contact Joan O’Donnell – joan.odonnell[at]tcd.ie .  I have written more about Little Heresies in my blog post here.
